Among the most famous and elusive of 20th-century overdates, the bold “7” beneath the “8” in the date is clearly visible on this well-preserved specimen. Light, honest wear is confined to the high points, with most original detail and surface definition remaining. Liberty’s shield and facial features are strong, and the reverse eagle retains excellent feather detail. The surfaces are smooth and a light silver-gray with no significant distractions and considerable mint luster remaining.
